Chemical Products

What is a Chemical Product?

Chemical products are substances or mixtures produced through chemical processes and containing one or more chemical substances. These products can vary in type and are used in a wide range of contexts, including everyday items such as cleaning agents, pharmaceuticals, cosmetics, fuels, plastics, paints, and many others.

These products cover a broad spectrum of uses and vary in complexity. Their manufacture often involves a combination of different chemical substances and processes to achieve the desired product. Safe and responsible handling of a chemical product is of utmost importance to minimize risks to human health and the environment. Therefore, there are extensive regulations and safety requirements governing the production, handling, and transport of these products.

Labeling of Chemical Products Following the CLP Regulation

If you manufacture or import chemical products and place them on the market, you must inform users about any potential hazards and how the products should be handled. This is done by classifying and labeling the products in accordance with the EU CLP Regulation (Regulation (EC) No 1272/2008).

You may also need to notify your activity or products in accordance with the EU REACH Regulation (Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006), which requires registration and reporting of certain substances and mixtures that are manufactured or imported within the EU.

For sellers or distributors of these products, it may also be necessary to provide Safety Data Sheets (SDS) to those who use the products, as required under EU law.
