Introduction

That the environment and environmental impact are important issues for Peab is no news. As early as 2018, the Peab Group established three very important environmental goals, one of which concerns the phasing out of environmentally and/or health hazardous products. Together with Intersolia, the group has taken important steps toward achieving this goal.

About Peab

For more than sixty years, Peab has contributed to building society. What began in 1959 with two very young brothers, Mats and Erik Paulsson, and a tractor has today become Sweden’s largest, and one of the Nordic region’s leading, construction and civil engineering companies.

Problem: Time-consuming compilations

At the beginning of 2019, Peab launched a group-wide project involving internal environmental specialists. As part of the project, they examined legislation, external requirements, and trends related to chemical products, which later formed the basis for the Peab Criteria.

These criteria apply at both the product and substance level, and it’s enough for a single substance in a product to match a restriction list for it to be flagged red. When it came time to compile the results, the process turned into an extremely time-consuming manual task, based on data from iChemistry and external platforms.

Because of this, the compilation could only be done once a year. In the fall of 2020, Ulrika Olsson, Environmental Specialist at Peab Asfalt AB, therefore reached out to her contact at Intersolia to discuss an automated solution.

Solution: Traffic Light Feature in iChemistry

When Ulrika Olsson and the team at Peab created compilations in iChemistry, a lot of the raw data they needed was already available in the system and could be utilized. At that time, Intersolia’s traffic light system, where products and substances are marked green, yellow, or red, existed only in iSafe, and Peab needed this functionality on a larger scale.

In collaboration with our technicians, and with approval from Peab’s environmental managers, the project was given the green light for development. In the fall of 2021, the feature was launched at a Nordic level.

“It was a truly interesting and rewarding project, and we’re happy to help ease Peab's efforts by eliminating the time-consuming manual work.”

Result: Simpler and time-saving management

With the help of the now enhanced traffic light feature, now in iChemistry, Peab has easily visualized its criteria and classified its products. This has made it simpler for users to find substitute products that are already available in the system.

The collaboration between Peab and Intersolia continues, and we look forward to discovering the new unexpected heights we can reach together!

Take control with our traffic light feature

You don’t need to be an expert to understand how dangerous a chemical is – see it directly with the help of the traffic lights. Your products are assigned a color based on their properties, providing you with a quick indication of the product’s hazard level.
